Faith, Healing and New Beginnings: How God Used My Dog to Carry Me Through Betrayal
At 55, I never expected to find myself standing at the edge of a completely new life.
After 27 years of marriage, the foundation I trusted gave way beneath me. An affair changed everything. Promises were broken, decisions were made without me, and the life I believed I was growing old into suddenly disappeared. When my husband walked away, it wasn’t just the end of a marriage, it was the loss of a future I had planned, nurtured, and believed was secure.
By then, I was already an empty nester. My daughters were grown, finding their own paths in the world, and I was immensely proud of them. But in the quiet that followed both their leaving and my husband’s, the house felt unbearably still. Grief has a way of settling into silence, and in those moments, the loneliness felt overwhelming.
Today, I see clearly what I could not see then.
God was present in every moment I thought I was alone. He carried me through heartbreak with grace, patience, and love—often delivered through the gentle presence of a dog who refused to leave my side and a cat who reminded me to rest when my heart was tired.
My faith deepened in that season. I learned that healing does not come on our timeline, but on God’s. I learned that love can exist even after betrayal, and that new beginnings can rise from the most painful endings.
This is why I choose to celebrate our pets.
Because they love us in ways that are pure and steady. Because they sit with us through grief without needing explanations. Because they are part of God’s quiet provision—reminders that we are never truly abandoned.
Dogs deserve to be celebrated.
Not just for the joy they bring, but for the healing they offer when life feels unbearable.
As I move forward, I do so with faith in my heart, gratitude for my girls, and a deep appreciation for the fur babies who helped me survive a chapter I never expected to live.
God is still writing my story.
And this new beginning though different than I once imagined is filled with love, purpose, and hope.
Sometimes the greatest blessings arrive on four legs, reminding us that even in brokenness, we are still deeply loved.
